About Us

The Space Sustainability Center (SSC) of the University of Rome Tor Vergata was born in 2021 with the aim of spreading the culture of Space among researchers and providing an integrated vision of current activities and future developments in space research. To address these challenges, a multidisciplinary approach is promoted with people’s intuition and cooperation pushing Space exploration towards next frontiers.

SSC brings together professors and researchers from all departments of the university including engineering, medicine, law, economics, mathematical and natural sciences, physics and human sciences. In this frame, the center represents a point of contact between people with different backgrounds and interests, promoting collaboration and interdisciplinary studies. SSC also welcomes individuals, working in other institutions, that have a strong background in Space and share the commitment of the center.

The center is strongly focused on sustainability, which is the driving force of all its activities. Sustainability aspects are relevant for every scientific area and cover a wide range of topics from debris mitigation strategies to in-situ resources utilization and human well-being in space.

SSC fosters research, seminars, post-graduate training and international collaborations to promote a sustainable space culture.   Several members of SSC have developed strong scientific collaborations with national and international Space agencies such as NASA, ESA, ASI, UAESA and JAXA as well as with many Research Centers, Universities and private and public companies working in this field.
